Well, I must admit I found it unsettling and weird when I first came to Hope Church and encountered the "happy clappy" form of worship. I was expecting something solemn...
I must admit, if it were something solemn, I might have fallen asleep or something. And I might not have converted.
Well, my take on this (with some advice from my shepherd) is that while it is true that we don't go to church to enjoy ourselves, we do not have to be dead serious all the time.
The music is a gift from God. We are using it to glorify God's name. And of course, we should be happy to glorify God. It's not that we're enjoying ourselves, it's just that we're expressing our joy in glorifying His name.
When it comes to prayer, we most definitely do not smile or laugh.
To study and not think is a waste. To think and not study is dangerous.
